Viele interessante Fakten über die Geschichte von Farben. Gut erklärt und sogar ein klein wenig humorvoll. Wer Interesse an der Kunstgeschichte hat, für den ist das genau das Richtige. Auch sehr gut als Geschenk geeignet.
Das ist ein sehr interessantes Buch, mit verschiedenen Fakten und Geschichten rund um die Colours. Ich empfehle jedem, der sich für Farben interessiert.

„The Secret Lives of Colour“ von Kassia St. Clair ist 2018 bei John Murray als Paperback in London erschienen.In 75 Miniaturen behandelt es 75 Farben aus dem gesamten Spektrum der kunsthistorischen Palette. Diese reicht von „White“ bis „Vantablack“. Sie schreibt über Farben wie „Isabelline“, „Ginger“, „Shocking Pink“, „Dragon’s Blood“, „Heliotrope“, „Woad“ oder „Taupe“. Man erahnt den Reichtum der Begrifflichkeit, der die Welt der Farben zu erfassen sucht. Es zeigt sich hier, dass sich Farbigkeit sehr schlecht abstrahieren lässt und dass an den meisten Farbbezeichnungen ein dinglicher Rest haften bleibt.Dieses kleine Bändchen ist allerdings kein wissenschaftlischer Katalog. Es handelt sich auch nicht um eine Handreichung für Künstler, Designer oder Architekten. Vielmehr erzählt St. Clair zu jeder Farbe eine kunsthistorische Anekdote, etwa ein bis zwei Seiten lang. Wie die Farbe entstanden ist, wie sie hergestellt wurde, welche historischen Ereignisse oder Personen sich mit der Farbe in Verbindung bringen lassen und vor allem, von welchem Ding sie sich herleiten lässt.Das Ganze liest sich sehr flott. Man hat das Gefühl hernach etwas mehr über diese oder jene Farbe zu wissen. Allerdings kommt der emotionale Gehalt der Farben – die wie Töne und Gerüche sehr stark auf unsere Stimmungen und Gefühle wirken – eindeutig zu kurz. Mag sein, dass dieser wesentliche Aspekt der Farben der Britin nur schwer zugänglich ist. Schade! So bleibt das Büchlein leider an der Oberfläche des Modischen.

This book is beautiful, but..This book (Penguin edition) has mat paper (not shiny). There is also one with whiter and shinier paper. This book is all about colors and has a nice design which looks better in the 'shiny edition' I find. The original and presumably shiny one is the one published by John Murray, still for sale here with article number 1473630819 (copy paste in search).
