This book is worth it because it's full of useful, understandable information that will help all of one's sewn clothes look much more professional. He provides great tips on issues such as ironing, sewing different kinds of seams, handling curves, fitting, and constructing collars, to name just a few. The book is not necessarily for beginners, unless that beginner has mostly tried making shirts or blouses, and even then, some of the processes relating to cuffs and collars may seem daunting. Since the book doesn't offer various methods for constructing, let's say, a cuff, but rather David Coffin's preferred method of doing this, it might be helpful to have other reference books on hand for less experienced sewers or those in a hurry. This book is truly for those who want first class Hugo Boss results and are willing to invest the time in it. While I do wish that the illustrations would have been placed on the same pages as the explanations, and some of the drawings are not always easy to interpret, all in all, this book is a definite skill-improver which I can honestly recommend. Even though I was hoping to be able to quickly make a shirt for my husband, the book has now made me want to go about it with more thought and perseverance to get truly professional results! I can't wait to start!
Ich hätte niemals gedacht, dass man ein ganzes Buch über Hemden (und ein wenig Blusen) schreiben könnte, und es auch noch interessant zu lesen sein würde. Hier ist der Gegenbeweis.Ein höchst informatives Werk, das ich regelmäßig zur Hand nehme, mit super Tipps zu Stoffqualitäten und -mustern, Einlagestoffen, Anpassung (naja, so schwer ist das ja nicht), Anfertigung, Bügeln. So sollte jedes Schneiderbuch beschaffen sein!
Ein reicher Schatz an Informationen für leidenschaftliche Hobby Schneider. Setzt allerdings einiges an 'Skill' voraus. Vor allem aber muss man die englische Sprache beherrschen und ein gutes Wörterbuch haben, denn Herr Coffin schreibt ein sehr akademisches und wortreiches Englisch.
Dieses Buch ist genau das Richtige, wenn man seine Nähtechnik - besonders im Bereich der Hemden- und Blusenherstellung - verbessern möchte. Die Anleitungen sind aus der Praxis für die Praxis und sehr gut nachzuvollziehen, so dass Hemden und Blusen ein professionelles Aussehen erhalten, von innen und aussen. Jeder, der gern näht, sollte dieses Buch in seiner Bibliothek haben.

Die Kindle Ausgabe ist nicht gelungen. Inhalt geht nach Seitennummern aber Kindle geht nach "locations" und zeigt keine Seitennummern. Bilder die angeblich unten oder rechts zu sehen sollten muss man suchen durch blättern.
And I own quite a few. This book takes you step by step through shirtmaking, for men or women. But it's not just making shirts, it's about fine sewing. There are all sorts of details in the book, seam finishes, high-end details, discussions about shirting fabrics. It's the sort of book that makes you want to be a quality seamstress. Every page gives you the sense of how much the authors knows and loves this craft. Excellent how-to illustrations, and wonderful photos of finished garments. I recommend it for any level sewer.
Wer sich dafür interessiert, seine selbst genähten Hemden und Blusen professionell aussehen zu lassen, so dass auch die linke Seite "schön" ist, kann aus diesem Buch einiges lernen. Neben Stoffkunde, richtigem Bügeln, ausführlichen Verarbeitungshinweisen etc.,wird hier die Möglichkeit gezeigt, einen Hemdenschnitt passgenau zu zu erstellen. Verschiedene Kragen und Manschetten werden vorgestellt und als Schnitt im Buch mitgeliefert. Ich würde mir dieses Buch jederzeit wieder kaufen.
